Update on Previous Blog

Regarding the blog on baby items - someone left a comment asking about the Hooter Hider (a cover-up for breastfeeding moms) and if it should be on the 'do' list. I have one myself (Bebe Au Lait brand) and would recommend it to any nursing mother as it is a convenient option to breastfeed on the go. My first practical suggestion would be to evalute your personal comfort level of breastfeeding in public. If nursing privately in Nordstrom's women's lounge is more your style, as far as breastfeeding in public goes, then an extra baby swaddling blanket would be sufficient enough to cover up the baby while you nurse. Many women in my mom's group use an extra baby blanket to cover up the baby and boob while they nurse with no problem. If you don't mind breastfeeding at your seat in a restaurant or while you wait in line at the DMV (both of which I have done), then spending the extra bucks for a Hooter Hider would be practical because they are a little spendy (around $30-$40).

Some other updates I wanted to mention...

Diapers - the diapers from Costco, as suggested in the original post, is a cost efficient option that is comparable to the premium diapers but may also not absorb as well. This does not mean it will leak, but may not "hold" as much. A good compromise that Kent and I found was to use the Costco Kirkland diapers during the day (since you will change the diapers more frequently) and a premium one a night. This helps to eliminate doing a diaper change in the middle of the night and waking up Ava. With her Huggies on at night, we can feel comfortable leaving it on til morning and not having a leak or any diaper rash.

Baby Carriers - before you run out to by an Ergo baby carrier as I mentioned, I highly suggest going to the store first and trying on as many carriers as possible. What works for some, do not work for others. The comfort and ease of wearing a carrier has a lot to do with your body type from what I've found and heard from other moms. Some are better for shorter people since the height of where the baby will sit can vary, while others are better for dads (the lack of boobs can allow the baby to cuddle up closer to the chest and not constantly root). Again, find a store that has a variety of carriers and make sure to try them on!
