More Than Words Can Say
Thank you so much to all our friends and family for the outpouring of love and support these past few weeks. It’s been a challenging adjustment into parenthood, so it means the world to us to have such a great support system. I’d like to especially thank my dad, mom, sister, and mother-in-law for being there for us at ‘ground zero’.
Dad – you were there from the beginning, saw me at my worst during recovery, and continued to be a positive support. Thank you for taking care of the house, Oliver and Mocha, making sure we ate (and for driving all over to pick up foods I liked), running all our crazy errands (remember the desperate need for the Miracle Blanket after our first night of hell…!), and most of all for being there for me when I had my spells of crying and moments of just breaking down from exhaustion. I don’t know how we would have survived without you and we are very lucky to have you in our lives.
Mom – thank you for all your help and advice and for being there for us. It was an emotional time for me and Kent and we really appreciated all the time, love, and effort you spent cooking us DELICIOUS home cooked meals, 3-5 meals a day. I really felt taken care of and in turn, had the energy to take better care of Ava and myself. I value all the advice you gave me to take care of myself in post-partum and will treasure the time I had to bond with you during this very special time. I’ll never forget to “choo choo” Ava’s legs and I’m sure she’ll be saying ‘Halmoni’ in no time!
Lori – I can’t believe how many times you drove down to Portland from Seattle with your injured knee, being only days away from surgery! You were a bright ray of sunshine for us with all the changes and emotions of coming home with a newborn. Thank you for the laughs, the dim sum, and for making me feel like a part of my life still has stayed the same and that everything didn’t just complete turn upside down….like going for Dairy Queen Hawaiian blizzards two days in a row with my sore back! I really appreciated the “normalcy” you brought to us and hope you weren’t scared from making any future trips to Portland (or having kids for that matter…). You are a great sister and an even better aunt!
Mom #2/June – thank you for coming all the way from Hawaii to be with us and help out with Ava, especially since you changed your plane ticket to come earlier (per our desperate request!) and had to endure a lay-over for a typically easy trip. Your calming presence and hands-on approach to Ava saved my sanity and helped me break out of my shell to join the rest of the world as a new mother. I know we couldn’t stay cooped us in the upstairs loft for the rest of our lives, but with your company and help, venturing out in public became a reality! Thank you for buying us all the mother-load of Costco baby diapers and wipes (and food!), and the awesome baby gear to making mothering easier. We have used everything a million times already (the hooter hider has become my best friend!) and has given us the freedom to lightly and easily travel around with Ava (especially the carrier). For that and for EVERYTHING else – cleaning, cooking, care for Ava so I could sleep in – we are forever, eternally grateful. THANK YOU!!

You will always be my "little girl" and what I do is from the heart because I love you; just like Ava will always be your "little girl" no matter how old she is. I enjoyed helping and wish I could have done more. Mocha and Oliver were a pleasure since they were very disciplined and easy to care for--Oliver proved to be the "lead dog" when it came to showing off the neighborhood. We became best buddies. And learning that Mocha won't use his litter box if it has poop in it--finicky...but he eats like a horse and behaves like a Ninja warrior. The front door lock was a bit tricky the first time, but we got over that one, didn't we...thanks Kent~smile. And before I forget,my complements to "Lin's" that made the seaweed soup the first week until your mom arrived and made the real deal. And what can I say about the "house special" chicken---broke the mouth!! And the Miracle Blanket was kind of a miracle in and of itself...and in the right colors too...yellow and blue.
I enjoyed sharing my love and will always have big shoulders for you to lean on when you need me.
I love you lots,
DAD
