Alive and Well!
Okay, it's been a month since little Ms. Ava Mo's arrival so I have no excuses not to update the blog anymore. What have I been up to these past few weeks, you ask? Besides changing the mother load of diapers and doing what seems like neverending amounts of laundry, I've also been out and about attending a new mom's group (more on that later...), shopping/power walking the mall, catching up on my celebrity gossip (courtesy of my 3am breastfeeding sessions and the E! channel), and trying to chase sleep whenever I can. I vowed to myself to leave the upstairs loft and join the rest of the world, even if it kills me. Here's a picture of where me and Ava have spent most of our waking hour for the first few weeks:
Beautiful, I know, but trust me, it became a prison that I need to break free from. And to my defense of seemingly being a complete lazy bum that checked out of the world, I have in fact been keeping up with writing my blogs on a Word document, but just haven't had time to transfer it to the actual blog since I wanted to accompany them with pictures. I dated them so it would be chronologically correct, so for those of you that have been keeping up with the latest, start from the day we were at the hospital.

Oh and a quick update on my feet - they've returned to normal! Here's a recent picture for those of you that might be curious:

Excuse the strange color of the photo...it's kind of creepy like a prison photo or some internet foot fetish picture, right? Yeah, well, at least they're back to normal size and I didn't want to spend an extra second taking photos of my still fugly feet. But, hooray for going back to normal!
Anyways, enjoy the blog and pics!

The "loft" was a nice and comfortable safe haven right after Ava was born. It was few steps from your bed and served as a kitchen, dining room, living room, and just plain ole hang out place. I loved the "loft" and will forever have fond memories of meticulously arranging meals for four on the towel covered Ottoman. Baking oven pans used for trays and stacked two deep high...amazing how we manuevered the food to make it all right. It reminded me of a time from the past when we (Lori, Lia, and me) sat around a little portable table on my King bed to eat dinners, watch movies, and "talk story." Your "loft" was the perfect "spot" at a time when you could not easily walk the stairs. And with Oliver the Brave always perched on the top of the easy chair right outside your bedroom dooras gatekeeper, with eyes and ears facing the stairwell, instinctively guarding you and Ava while Kent was at work, I knew the "loft" was a very special place.
When I left Portland 2 weeks after Ava was born, I could see you improving and witnessed your painful climb down the stairs and feeling well enough to venture out of the house with Kent and Ava. The sight of the three of you strolling outside brought great comfort to me. It epitomized, in my mind, the first formation of your "new" family structure.
You and Kent have done incredibly well as parents and I know AVa can feel the love emanating from the two of you. I can feel it in the pictures and in your words on this blog.
With your loss of hundreds of hours of sleep and 24hours and 7 days a week of love around the clock for Ava, you have met the rites of passage as parents.
I miss you all and Gramps misses Ava's cute feet, toes, hands, and fingers....and her pretty face. I can't wait to hold her in a few weeks.
Until then, I'm sending mucho LOVE from San Francisco to Hillsboro.
