For Reals
No Excuses. A thousand, million apologies for my total lack of blogging motivation. If it makes you happy, I'll poke two needles (proverbially) in both my eyes. Are we square now? Okay, so enough chit chat and let me at least post something I know will be quick, easy and painless - Ava's first day of preschool!
Our big girl started part-time preschool last Thursday, September 22nd, and has loved every minute of it. It's part-time since it's once a week (3.5 hrs) and parents can go with them and slowly phase out. We've been telling Ava about school and the whole process of being a big girl now and she was so giddy with excitement the first day that she barely made it through the front door out of sheer excitement (read: deer in the headlight). She was so shy, so sweet, so adorable. I really enjoyed my one-on-one special time with her throughout the class and was amazed at how fast she's grown up. *tear*. For the first day, the children were allowed to roam the classroom the entire time with parents to familiarize themselves and get comfortable. The teachers set up stations in addition to the regular play areas (play kitchen, reading nook, cars/trains, puzzle area) with a painting easel, water station, play doh, and a construction peg-in-the-Styrofoam contraption. To my surprise - and delight- Ava went straight for the painting easel and painted for a good half hour. I think we had at least eight "masterpieces" for Ava to take home and show Daddy.
Besides a great preschool and Kindergarten program, Ava's preschool is all the more fun because her dear friends Kevin and Bennett are in there with her. I saw a little apprehension in her face the first time we walked through the door, but once she saw Kevin, I saw a bounce to her step and she looked much more relaxed. Thank goodness for friends! We missed Bennett the first day since he was out of town at the 'Happiest Place on Earth'..aka Disneyland (lucky boy!). Anyways, she had a great first day and it definitely bittersweet to see her as such an independent little girl.
Lastly, the last photos with Ava and Kent was when he surprised her with hot pink daisies for her first day of school. I almost cried when I saw the flowers and couldn't believe he went out of his way to get his little girl her first bouquet of flowers. I knew I married a thoughtful and romantic man, but PINK DAISIES for Ava, come on...he truly is the world's sweet husband AND dad. ;)
